Millennium Dental Mosman will be a provider of the Child Dental Benefits Schedule in 2014
If you have a child aged from 2-17 years of age then you may be eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule in 2014. This schedule is designed to cover children for necessary dental procedures such as general check-ups for up to $1000 dollars over a 2 year period. This will replace the Medicare Teen Dental Plan (MTDP) which previously covered teenagers for treatments such as x-rays and general check-ups.
How do I qualify for the Child Dental Benefit?
There is a means test for this benefit which will determine whether or not you are eligible or not. You will need a receipt of your Family Tax Benefit Part A (FTB-A) or another relevant benefit payment from the government. If you require more information about qualifying for this treatment you can visit the Department of Human Services.
How do I check the remaining balance of my benefit?
As the $1000 benefit is only valid over a two year period (from the start of 2014 to the end of 2015) it is recommended that you keep an eye on your remaining benefit sum. This can be performed at each of your visits, or you can check your cap balance by phoning Human Services on 132 150. If you have any queries about this please do not hesitate to ask the friendly staff at Millennium Dental Mosman in Mosman.
What can I claim on the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
Restorative services and fillings:
- One metallic or composite filling may be claimed per tooth per day. (multiple fillings on the one tooth are treated as separate restorations – ask your dentist about this)
Sedation
- IV sedation – can only be claimed once every 12 month period
- Inhalation (nitrous oxide) treatment is covered
- General check-up
- X-rays (performed in practice)
- Cleaning
- Fissure sealants
- Fillings
- Root canals
- Extractions
- Partial dentures
Do I have to pay a gap similar to private health?
The only time you will need to pay a ‘gap’ is when your treatment has exceeded the claiming limits for that particular treatment or if your benefit payment cap amount has been exhausted. For example if your child needed three fillings in one appointment on separate tooth areas then you will be required to pay for two of those fillings as there are limits to how many fillings you can claim per day. The Millennium Dental Mosman team can discuss the relevant costs before your treatment. Simply ask your dental professional at Millennium Dental Mosman or call us for a quote. In most instances we will need to see any potential conditions before treatment during a general check-up which is covered under the benefit schedule.
